It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Matt Big Head III, of the Blood Tribe, announce his sudden passing in Lethbridge, Alberta on October 21, 2025, at the age of 20. Although his life ended before we were ready, Peter Matt Big Head III moved on from this world to join our ancestors in the Sandhills. Matt was one of the kindest people anyone could ever meet, and left a huge impression on those he encountered, he was a pleasure to know and spend time with. We know he would want us to live, laugh, crank up the music, and shred the guitar riffs to the highest volume.

Matt was a curious child. He wanted to know everything. “Why” was his favorite word. (This drove his mom nuts, but she tried her best to answer him) Matty was named after his dad and grandpa and became Peter Big Head III. “Matty” or “Matt” comes from his great grandma, her name was Mattie. Matt grew into a smart, kind, generous, helpful, and respectful young man. Matt was taught to stand tall and be brave. To stand up for what is right and learn to do no wrong. He took these lessons and became an independent individual, even though he was still a momma’s boy. When Matt’s sisters were born, Matt became a protective Big Brother. He took on the role of “the man of the house” and helped his mom take care of everyone. Matt loved his family very much.

Matt received numerous academic awards through Probe elementary, G.S Lakie Middle, and Winston Churchill High where he graduated in 2023. He also in that same year attended a youth program and received his work certificates for Wildland firefighting, EMT training and Chainsaw operation certificate, in addition to receiving his driver’s license to which he assumed a vehicle accompanied this milestone. Matt’s future aspirations were to receive a degree to which he was still uncertain of what he wanted to be “when he grew up”. He did however have the goal of attending the University to follow in the footsteps of his late father PJ, he also mentioned that when he received his education, he would then take over Chief Travis Plaited Hairs position as tribe leader.

Matt is joining his father Peter Big Head Jr (PJ), his mom’s grandparents, dad’s grandparents, maternal Great aunt Sophie Plaited hair, Maternal Auntie Jodie Eagle Tail Feathers, Maternal Great Uncle Blake Standing Alone, paternal Uncle Shawn Big Head, and Paternal Aunt Bonnie Big Head.

Matt leaves behind his beloved Mother Tracy Dawn Plaited Hair, his siblings, Nicholas Big Head, Lucus Big Head, Jared big Head, Sadie Crow Chief, And Lyden Crow Chief. His Maternal Grandmother Sally Plaited Hair and Grandfather Emil David, Auntie Jennifer Plaited Hair and Uncle Nolan Eagle Tail Feathers. His Aunts and Uncles on his mother’s side JC David, and Willie David. As well as Paternal Grandmother Elizabeth Big Head.

Tracy and family would like to extend a special thanks to Travis and Veronica Plaited Hair, Pat and Dawn Standing Alone, Terry Jane Standing Alone, Kristy Bruised Head, Marcia Black Water, Billie-Jean Standing Alone, Harlen Pinder and The Martin Brothers staff. 

Thank you to the Lethbridge Public School District for they accompanied, guided and were close mentors to Matt from the tender age of 6 years old, to the time of his passing.

A Wake Service will be held at 6PM on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Gladstone Hall, Blood Tribe.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12PM on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Gladstone Hall, Blood Tribe. 

A Graveside Service will be held following the Funeral Service at St. Mary's Cemetery following the service.

The family invites friends and family to join them for a feast back at Gladstone Hall following the Graveside Service.
